76ers Report: Sam Hinkie is Really Gone

It has been a few weeks since Sam Hinkie's [semi-abrupt] resignation from his seat at the Sixers' table, and the Philadelphia fan base is still digesting the news. With the future of the franchise now in the hands of the Colangeli(?) Colangelo's, Jeff McMenamin and Michael Kaskey-Blomain take a stab at predicting who may remain on the roster under the new regime on a new 76ers Report.

Additions Mean Subtractions for the Sixers This Summer

It looks like the Sixers will finally see at least one of their 2014 lottery picks suit up for the team this coming season.

Word of Dario Saric’s imminent arrival – he recently informed his Turkish teammates of his intention to join the Sixers this summer, according to a report – is good news for an organization (and a fan base) that could really use some.

If all goes according to plan, Saric will be joined by the Sixers other ’14 lotto pick, Joel Embiid, on the team’s active roster next season, providing the ultimate double-dose of delayed gratification. The team’s potential upcoming additions don’t stop there though. Thanks to Sam Hinkie’s groundwork the team has ample cap space with which to sign impact players, as well as up to four first round picks in the upcoming 2016 Draft.

Brett Brown Faces an Uncertain Philadelphia Future

This article appears in its original from on 97.3 ESPN

Pardon Brett Brown if Bryan Colangelo's recent endorsements don't prevent him from looking over his shoulder.

While publicly pleasing, the younger Colangelo's comments regarding Brown's job status sound similar to the lip service paid to Sam Hinkie by Jerry Colangelo before the latter marginalized the former to the point of resignation.

Colangelo Ready to Capitalize

This article appears originally on 97.3 ESPN

Upon his introduction as the Sixers new General Manager, Bryan Colangelo made clear that his strategy was not necessarily to veer from the ‘process’ path that Sam Hinkie had paved, but rather to build upon it.

“This is not a departure from a process,” Colangelo emphasized at his introductory press conference, opting for ambiguity in regards to which particular process he was referring to. “We’re looking to transition from unfortunate losing to more winning. We want to accelerate that process next year. We’re going to try to establish a culture of winning.”

Sam Hinkie Set the 76ers Up For Future Success

This article appears in its original format on Hoops Habit.

The crops have been eaten.”

Picture a barren farm field, ravaged of the best of its current crop, and left with extremely limited prospects for future sustenance. There might be enough lentil and corn crop to get by, but certainly not enough seeds to sow to thrive and grow going forward in the larger environment.

That desolate turf is how Sam Hinkie viewed the Sixers upon taking over as the team’s General Manager in 2013. He saw a middling team who had gone all in on a move to better themselves, and got burned. All that was left in the wake of the Andrew Bynum debacle was scorched Earth, roster remains, and a very bleak outlook for the franchise’s future. The team’s best player, Andre Iguodala was gone. Their most recent draft picks, Moe Harkless and Nik Vucevic were gone. Their first round picks in the upcoming 2014 & 2016 NBA Drafts; gone. Cap space was tight due to several questionable contracts. Not only were the organization’s present prospects compromised, but their future outlook was as well.

The crops had been eaten.

Enter: ‘The Process’; an ambitious plan to punt the present in favor of future fortification and eventual self-sustenance. Given the ambitious aim of Hinkie’s plan to restructure the Sixers, the gratification was never going to be immediate. Such NBA success rarely is – save for a couple recent Eastern Conference examples) – but moderate short-term success was never the desired goal. The franchise’s fan base had become accustomed to near-.500 records and first-round flameouts, and yearned for something more; something consistent, something sustainable.

The Colangelo Conspiracy

So, this is what Jerry Colangelo wanted all along.

He never had an interest in running the Philadelphia 76ers - his unwillingness to relocate from Phoenix speaks to that, as does the quick manner with which he shed his organizational title upon his son's instatement with the Sixers.

76ers Report: The Sam Hinkie Resignation Reaction Episode

Sam Hinkie is no longer with the Sixers. What becomes of 'The Process'? What does his departure mean for the franchise's future? WTF are the Colangelo's going to do with the team? Should there be any lingering sliver of faith in the team's ownership?

There are a million and one questions surrounding the Sixers in the wake of Hinkie's departure, and Jeff McMenamin and Michael Kaskey-Blomain dive into some of them on a new 76ers Report.

76ers Distancing Themselves From Sam Hinkie

You know those bad break-ups? The ones where you don't want to be reminded of it so you delete all evidence of the others' existence. Well, that's the Sixers and former General Manager Sam Hinkie right now.

Hinkie recently resigned from the Sixers amidst marginalization, and the Sixers are not taking it so well.

Michael Kaskey-Blomain and Sean Brace React to Sam Hinkie's Resignation

Sam Hinkie's resignation from the 76ers, announced via a 13-page letter, came as a big blow to Sixers supporters in favor of Hinkie's long-term rebuilding approach. The move itself was not a complete shock, but the timing was.

Michael Kaskey-Blomain, who was the first to report that Sam Hinkie's future with the Sixers was in jeopardy, joined Philly Influencer's Sean Brace for a video reaction:

Allen Iverson is Hall of Fame Bound

We finally have the answer to if The Answer will be a Basketball Hall-of-Famer, and that answer is a resounding yes.

It was officially revealed earlier in the week that Allen Iverson will be enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in September, alongside Shaquille O'Neal, Yao Ming, and other legends of basketball. Iverson was selected in the first year of his eligibility.

Iverson's impact off of the court was arguably bigger than his impact on it, and his impact on it was pretty damn big:

Iverson will be long remembered for the heart and hustle with which he played the game, as well as for his 'play every game like it's your last' attitude, and now his legacy will be presevered in the annals of basketball history. The Hall of Fame induction is a well-deserved capstone to an incredible career.

The 76ers Should Shut Nerlens Noel Down For Rest of the Season

The 76ers struggle of a season is mercifully nearing an end, and with only a handful of games remaining and absolutely nothing to play for, the Sixers should officially shut Nerlens Noel down for the remainder of the season.

Noel has missed the past six games with a bruised right knee, and is questionable for Tuesday's contest against the Pelicans; a game which may provide the Sixers with their best opportunity to pull out one more W this season. The 76ers need that one more win to avoid tying the worst single season record in NBA history (9-73). While Noel would certainly help the cause, the long-term reward of trotting him out for this Sixers team again this season is non-existent.

It Looks Like Allen Iverson is Headed to the Hall of Fame

Allen Iverson is eligible for induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame this summer, and it appears as though The Answer will indeed be headed to the Hall.

Iverson was scheduled to attend, and be honored, at a camp hosted by NFL quarterback Tyrod Taylor in Newport News, Virginia on Saturday, according to David Teel of The Daily Press, but Iverson's flight out of Houston was delayed.

Coincidentally - or not so much - the 2016 Hall of Fame inductees will be announced on Monday, in Houston. One can connect the dots and surmise that Iverson will be in store for some congratulations on Monday.

Iverson's impact on the game of basketball, both on and off the court, was monumental, and it appears as though he will be able to add first-ballot Hall-of-Famer to his already robust resume.

Iverson recently spoke to Rachel Nichols about what a Hall of Fame induction would mean to him:

76ers Fans Would Trade Jahlil Okafor For D'Angelo Russell

It's been a rough rookie season for some of the top members of the 2015 NBA Draft Class.

In a story straight out of a soap opera, D'Angelo Russell's recent gaffe involving teammate Nick Young and a recorded conversation has led to rampant speculation surrounding Russell's long-term future with the Los Angeles Lakers. While it's not often that you hear trade speculation about a top-3 pick during their rookie season, Russell's case isn't the only time that has happened this season; just ask Jahlil Okafor.
